Path2Parenthood donation pregnancy

An anonymous donor’s $10,000 gift to Path2Parenthood will help a woman with Alport syndrome as she and her husband expand their family through surrogacy.

The donation from a person described as a “celebrity” who wanted to help someone in need of surrogacy, was given to Path2Parenthood through Melissa B. Brisman, an attorney who specializes in the field of reproductive law and a longtime supporter of the family-building nonprofit organization. Path2Parenthood, in collaboration with the Connecticut-based Nest Egg Foundation, provided the surrogacy grant to the grateful recipient.

The Nest Egg Foundation, Inc., provides financial grants to those unable to start their families due to financial need. Path2Parenthood partnered with Nest Egg because it is an established non-profit with an aligned mission, and vetting process. All medical procedures associated with the grant will be provided through Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT), a Fertility Center of Excellence, which accepts grant recipients.

“My husband and I have been married for three years now, and we are ready to give love and knowledge to children who are happy and healthy! My family thanks you [the anonymous donor], as we are now able to eradicate this gene from our family line. Your donation has been a blessing, after enduring many hardships. Thank you!” said the recipient of the grant through Amy Matton, in a press release. Matton is vice president and coordinator for Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT).

Alport syndrome has been recognized as a potential risk factor for pregnancy-related complications, as well as for increased risk for life-threatening kidney failure.

For many women with this rare genetic disease, becoming a mother can be a challenge that is possible to achieve only with proper medical care and follow-up. With adequate genetic testing and counseling it is possible for a family to have a child without fear of passing the disease onto future generations.

All medical procedures that the couple will undergo and associated with the grant will be provided by RMACT, one of the 16 U.S. leading in vitro fertility centers that participate in the Fertility Center of Excellence program.

“We at Path2Parenthood are grateful to our generous, anonymous donor, and to Ms. Brisman, for facilitating this arrangement. It is P2P’s mission to help hopeful parents achieve their goal of having a family, despite boundaries, such as financial hardship,” said Don Hribek, Path2Parenthood’s acting executive director. “We are happy to have been a cog in this wheel, and also extend our thanks to Nest Egg Foundation, and to RMACT, for making this couple’s dreams come true.”
